Wow, I didn’t realize you have to remove the candles, but it makes sense if you are trying to send energy back into the roots and prevent tree growth. Will this encourage trunk growth?
It’s actually more for density creation in the branches and creating smaller needles. When you remove the candles mid-summer, the tree will bud behind that and create new potential branches that will have smaller needles because of the shortened growing season).
